Welcome to Articles of Gold for the month of February, as you have seen I am teaching on the Beatitudes this year.  This month we will look into the blessing for those who mourn from the where Jesus spoke in the “Sermon on the Mount”. We will delve into the sorrow and mourning that people experience and how they can receive comfort in the midst of the pain.

Matthew 5: 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. The word mourn means to express sadness, or to weep with grief.  Because of sin and the fall, we will all experience mourning at some time in our lives.

THE SORROW OF DEATH

The most common grief or mourning we experience is the sorrow at the death of a loved one.

Genesis 23:2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
